Public consultation this Friday / Saturday
A public consultation about the proposed new centre for urban sports, planned to be built in Dover Road, Folkestone, will take place from 3pm to 6pm on Friday 15th May and from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 16 May at “Sunflower House”, the community centre situated by the railway arch in Foord Road, Folkestone.
The proposal will be the world’s first multi-storey skate facility of its kind, and will add to the ever expanding skate and BMX scene in Folkestone, allowing it to act as an attraction for people to visit and enjoy. The sports park will accommodate a variety of popular urban sports including but not limited to skateboarding, BMX-ing, rollerblading and scootering, whilst also attracting trials riders and climbing enthusiasts. It also offers a potential new home for the Folkestone Amateur Boxing Club. The ambition is to focus on the youth of the Shepway District and attract a national and international following.
This consultation provides an opportunity for local people and future users to see current plans, as drawn up by Guy Hollaway Architects, and to express views about the proposals. The objective is to provide a major new indoor activity centre that will be the finest of its kind, whilst offering access to young people who live locally at heavily subsidised rates.
